Obwohl wir erst um 2 Uhr ins Bett gingen, wachten wir vor dem Wecker kurz nach 7 Uhr auf… ausgepackt hatten wir wenig, aber eine Dusche nahm ich trotzdem, dann ging es zum herrlichen Frühstücksbuffet und um 9 Uhr holte uns ein Taxi ab, das uns an den Flughafen brachte. Wir gaben unser Gepäck auf und hatten noch genügend Zeit um den Geschäften nachzugehen - nur gab es nur eines und das öffnete erst um 10 Uhr! Das war weiter nicht schlimm, denn meine Auswahl war schnell getroffen: Käse aus Terceira!

Although we went to bed only at 2 am we woke up before our alarm clocks shortly after 7 am… we only had unpacked the few things we needed, but anyhow I took a nice shower, went to the wonderful breakfast buffet and at 9 am a taxi brought us to the airport. We dropped off our luggage and still had enough time to walk through the shops - only there was just one and it opened at 10 am! This was no problem at all, as my choice was made in a second: Cheese from Terceira!

Alles schien perfekt: Es regnete zwar, aber als wir um 10:15 Uhr an Bord gingen, verabschiedete sich die Sonne von uns... und als wir angeschnallt auf den Abflug wartete, zögerte sich dieser 1 ½ Stunden hinaus! Gemäss Bordansage auf Grund von Richtigstellen von Dokumenten! Wir ahnten schon, was nun folgen würde, und so war es: Wir kamen in Lissabon an, als unser Weiterflug startete! Wir erhielten Sitze auf dem nächsten Flug in die Schweiz, würden so um 19 Uhr in Lissabon abfliegen und um 22:45 in Zürich landen… Die Zeit verbrachten wir im Internet, in den Restaurants, beim Shoppen und assen unsere letzte Melone aus Graciosa…

Um 19 Uhr ging es dann endlich weiter und wir flogen zurück in die Schweiz, wo wir um 22:45 Uhr in Zürich ankamen! Was für eine Reise mit unvergesslichen Eindrücken von einer noch intakten Welt, wo die Natur regiert und die Leute absolut liebenswert sind!!!

Everything seemed perfect: Admittedly it was raining, but when we boarded at 10:15 am the sun came out to say goodbye to us... and when we were waiting with our seat belts fastened, take off delayed another 1 ½ hours! According to the announcement it was due to an error of documents! We already knew what was coming next, and that’s how it was: We arrived at Lisbon when our connecting flight was leaving! We got seats on the next flight to Switzerland, which would leave at 7 pm from Lisbon and consequently arrive at Zurich at 10:45 pm… We spent our time waiting with surfing in the web, having something to eat at the restaurants, shopping around and having our last melon from Graciosa…

At 7 pm we finally we moved on and flew back to Switzerland, where we arrived at Zurich at 10:45pm! What a journey with unforgettable impressions of a yet intact world, where nature reigns and the people are absolutely lovable!!!

Heute schliefen wir wieder einmal richtig aus, bis 9 Uhr! Nach dem Frühstück packten wir unsere Koffer, checkten per Internet unsere Flüge Terceira-Lissabon-Zürich ein und checkten um 11 Uhr aus dem Hotel aus. Danach fuhren wir nach Carapacho zu den Thermen und liessen uns so richtig verwöhnen: Zuerst liessen wir uns im Thermalbad treiben, wo wir Ricardo und Joao wieder begegneten, die wir gestern in der Caldeira getroffen hatten und die einen Werbefilm über die Azoren drehen. Sie fragten mich, ob ich ein Interview geben würde… da wir noch etwas warten mussten bis unser privater Jacuzzi-Raum frei war, willigte ich gerne ein, zudem hatte ich ja jetzt viel über diese wundervollen Inseln zu erzählen! Danach ging es wie bereits erwähnt ins Jacuzzi bis uns die Masseurinnen abholten. Nach der entspannenden Massage joggte ich ein letztes Mal der wunderschönen Küste entlang und traf Nadine darauf in den Piscinas Naturais, wo ich schwimmen ging und mich dann der Sonne hingab…

This morning we slept in for once, until 9 am! After breakfast we packed our suitcases, did our web check-in for the flights Terceira-Lisbon-Switzerland tomorrow and checked out of the hotel at 11 am. Thereafter we drove to Carapacho to the hot springs and got ourselves duly treated: First we floated in the thermal bath, where we met Ricaro and Joao again, who we got to know yesterday at the caldeira and who make a commercial movie about the Azores. They asked me if I would give an interview… as we had to wait for our private Jacuzzi room anyhow, I agreed with pleasure, especially as I had to tell lots about those wonderful islands now! Thereafter we enjoyed the Jacuzzi until the masseurs went to pick us up. After a relaxing massage I went a last time for a run along the beautiful coast and met Nadine at the piscinas naturais, where I went for a swim and indulged in the sun…

Sauber und ausgeruht wie schon lange nicht mehr, begaben wir uns um 18 Uhr ins Restaurant Dolphin um die Ecke und genossen unseren letzten gegrillten Fisch (wieder einen andern!) auf der Terrasse mit einer fantastischen Aussicht…

Um 19:30 Uhr übergaben wir am Hafen von Sao Mateus (Praia) unser Mietauto an Rui von der Firma Medina & Filhos Lda., der prompt versuchte uns einen Schaden anzuhängen… Da bei der Übergabe am Montag Abend alles etwas sehr schnell abgelaufen war (ohne ums Auto zu laufen und die Beulen und Kratzer zu begutachten) und wir beim Wegfahren eine grosse Beule und Kratzer auf der Haube bemerkt hatten, habe ich glücklicherweise alles mit meinem Fotoapparat festgehalten! Etwas verspätet lief die MV Santorini dann endlich ein, wir gaben unser Gepäck auf, gingen an Bord und um 20:30 Uhr lichteten wir Anker und fuhren Richtung Terceira!

Um 23:30 Uhr kamen wir in Praia da Vitoria, Terceira, an, holten unser Gepäck und fuhren mit dem Taxi zum Hotel Atlantida Mar (www.atlantidamarhotel.com), wo wir unsere Reise vor einem Monat begonnen hatten… zu unserer Überraschung hatten sie für uns eine Suite bereit! Dort bemerkte ich, dass ich meine Badtasche mit all meinen neuen Bikinis im Mietauto in Graciosa gelassen hatte! : (

Not for a long time have we been so clean and relaxed! We went to the Restaurant Dolphin around the corner at 6 pm and enjoyed our last grilled fish (another one again!) on the terrace with a fantastic view…

At 7:30 pm we dropped off our rented car at the harbour of Sao Mateus (Praia) and Rui of Medina & Filhos Lda. promptly tried to frame us for a damage… When we took over his car Monday night, everything went too fast (without walking around the car and examine damages), but when we drove off we noticed a big bump and some scratches on the hood - fortunately I took pictures of it! A bit late MV Santorini finally arrived, we dropped off our luggage, went on board and at 8:30 pm we hoisted anchor and drove direction Terceira!

At 11:30 pm we arrived at Praia da Vitoria, Terceira, picked up our luggage and drove by taxi to the Hotel Atlantida Mar (www.atlantidamarhotel.com), where we started our journey one month ago… to our surprise they had a suite ready for us! There I noticed that I had left my bag with all new bikinis in the rental car in Graciosa! : (

Um 8 Uhr heute Morgen, als ich mich aufmachte die Gegend joggend zu erkunden, tröpfelte es ein bisschen... es hörte aber bald wieder auf. Beim Schwimmen im Atlantik musste ich zuerst gegen ziemliche Wellen ankämpfen, danach kam von der andern Seite heftiger Regen! Nässer konnte ich nicht werden, nur musste ich danach noch in meinen verregneten Jogginganzug steigen! Als ich im Hotel völlig durchnässt ankam, kam mir die Receptionistin mit einem Badetuch entgegen... bevor ich aber frühstücken ging, nahm ich erst einmal eine heiße Dusche! ; )

At 8 am this morning when I got ready to explore the surroundings by jogging, it started to spit a bit... soon after it stopped again. When I went swimming in the Atlantic I first had to fight against big waves and then heavy rain started coming from the other side! I couldn't get wetter but still had to put on my rain-swept track suit! When I entered the hotel the receptionist arrived with a towel... but before I went for breakfast I had to take a hot shower! ; )

Um 11 Uhr begannen wir unsere Tour rund um die Insel und fuhren der Ostküste entlang Richtung Norden. Glücklicherweise hatte es aufgehört zu regnen, die übrig gebliebenen Wolken sorgten aber für eine besondere Fotostimmung! So besuchten wir Barro Vermelho und den Leuchtturm Farol da Ponta da Barca im Norden.

At 11 pm we started our tour around the island and first drove along the east coast direction north. Luckily the rain had stopped, but the left over clouds arranges a perfect atmosphere for pictures! So we visited Barro Vermelho und the lighthouse Farol da Ponta da Barca in the north.

Nachdem wir der ganzen Westküste entlang gefahren waren, erreichten wir um 12:30 Uhr in die Termas do Carapacho, ganz im Süden der Insel, und reservierten Massage Termine für morgen Mittag. Auf dem Weg nach Sao Mateus (Praia), genossen wir die spektakuläre Aussicht vom Leuchtturm Farol da Restinga! Nach einem Espresso in einem Hafenrestaurant in Sao Mateus (Praia) fuhren wir zum Krater (Caldeira) und stiegen die Furna do Enxofre hinab, wo 100 m tief die Lagoa do Styx liegt, die man aber wegen der ausquellenden schwefelhaltigen Gase nicht besuchen kann - dies war wieder ein perfekter Ausflug beim heutigen schwülen und bewölkten Wetter!

Schlussendlich befanden wir uns um 15:30 Uhr zurück in Santa Cruz da Graciosa und liefen die Geschäfte ab... Danach genoss ich den Pool an der Sonne bis es bald Zeit zum Abendessen war, das wir heute im eleganten Hotelrestaurant einnahmen.

After driving along the whole west coast we arrived at 12:30 at the Termas do Carapacho, in the south of the island, and reserved a massage for tomorrow at noon. On the way to Sao Mateus (Praia) we enjoyed the spectacular view from the lighthouse Farol da Restinga! After an espresso break at the harbour restaurant in Sao Mateus (Praia) we drove on to the crater (caldeira) and descended to the Furna do Enxofre, where 100 m below lies the Lagoa do Styx, which is not accessible because of the expanding sulfurous gases – this was another perfect excursion with humid and overcast conditions of today!

Finally we ended up at Santa Cruz da Graciosa at 3:30 pm and strolled along the shops… Thereafter I had a rest in the sun at the pool until it was time for dinner soon, which we had today at the hotel restaurant.

Gestern Abend wollte ich eigentlich meine Pico Anstrengungen mit einem wohltuenden Bad belohnen, da es aber einige Zeit dauerte bis meine Fotos hochgeladen waren, begnügte ich mich mit einer schnellen Dusche... Dafür holte ich heute Morgen alles nach und ging wie neu geboren um 9:30 Uhr zum Frühstück! ; ) Danach war wieder einmal Packen angesagt und um 10:30 Uhr brachte uns der Hotelbus zum Hafen.

Actually I intended to take a soothing bath last night to reward my Pico efforts, but because it took quite a while to upload my pictures I contented myself with a quick shower... In return I treated myself this morning and went as new born for breakfast at 9:30 am! ; ) Thereafter we had to pack our suitcases and at 11:30 am the hotel shuttle bus drove us to the port.

Die MV Santorini lief gerade ein, wir gaben unser Gepäck auf und schon kurz darauf befanden wir uns an Bord. Um 11:15 lichteten wir Anker und genossen eine fantastische Fahrt nach Graciosa, unsere 8. Insel der Azoren, wo wir pünktlich um 13:30 in Sao Mateus, auch Praia genannt, ankamen.

The MV Santorini just came in, we dropped off our luggage and shortly after we found ourselves on board. At 11:15 am we hoisted anchor and enjoyed a fantastic navigation to Graciosa, our 8th island of the Azores, where we arrived in Sao Mateus, also called Praia, on time at 13:30 pm.

Wir schnappten uns das erste Taxi, das uns die 6 km zum Graciosa Hotel (http://www.graciosahotel.com) ins Hauptstädtchen Santa Cruz da Graciosa fuhr. Bis unser Zimmer bereit war, checkten wir die Autovermietungen ab (ich hatte 2 gute Angebote!) und genossen einen Espresso und einen frisch gepressten Orangensaft auf der Terrasse. Als wir ausgepackt hatten - das ging diesmal schnell, da eh fast alles im Wäschesack war - relaxten wir am Pool, glücklicherweise bedeckten die Wolken die heisse Sonne...

We grabbed the first taxi which drove us the 6 km to the Graciosa Hotel (http://www.graciosahotel.com) in Santa Cruz da Graciosa, the small capitol of the island. Whilst waiting until our room was ready, we checked out rental car availabilities (I had 2 good offers!) and enjoyed an espresso and a fresh squeezed orange juice on the terrace. When we had unpacked our suitcases - this time we were real fast as almost everything was in the laundry bag now - we relaxed at the pool and were happy that clouds were hiding the hot sun...

Um 18 Uhr brachten Rui und Luis wie besprochen unseren ‘neuen‘ Mietwagen für 2 Tage, einen Renault Kangoo. Damit fuhren wir gleich mal durch das Städtchen und entschieden uns schlussendlich für das Restaurant Apolo 80 (eines von zwei!), wo wir einen herrlichen grillierten Vermelho genossen! Zum Abschluss gab es ein genauso herrliches Dessert und einen Portwein im eleganten Hotelrestaurant/-bar!

At 6 pm, as agreed upon, Rui and Luis from Medina & Filhos Lda. delivered our ‘new’ rental, a Renault Kangoo. We drove into town with it and finally decided for the restaurant Apolo 80 (out of two!) and had a delicious grilled Vermelho! To round off we had an equal delicious desert and a Port wine at the elegant hotel restaurant/-bar!
