Heute
Morgen joggte ich kurz nach 8 Uhr bei wolkenlosem Himmel den ganzen Ort Velas
zwischen seinen zwei Felsen hin und zurück. Zur Krönung des Ganzen gab es ein
erfrischendes Bad in einem der Piscinas Naturais, wo ich aus der Felsenfestung
hinaus in den offenen Atlantik schwimmen konnte - genial, und das Wasser fühlte
sich gar mehr so kalt an!
This morning shortly after 8 am I went for a run back and forth the whole town of Vela between the two rocks under a cloudless sky. To crown it all, I went for a swim in one of the piscinas naturais where I was able to swim out of the rock fortress into the open Atlantic - just brilliant, and the water didn't feel as cold anymore!

Als ich um 9:30 Uhr zum Frühstück kam, hatte Nadine es schon fast leer geräumt ; ) so gesellte ich mich zu Kees & Frank an den Tisch und vor lauter interessanter Gespräche kamen wir fast nicht zum essen! Danach war ausspannen und sonnen am Pool angesagt...
When I arrived for breakfast at 9:30 am, Nadine had already almost cleared it off ; ) so I joined Kees & Frank at their table and because we lost in interesting conversations we hardly had time to eat! Thereafter our plan was relaxing and sun tanning at the pool...

Um 16 Uhr waren wir bereit den Rest der Insel mit unserem Mietauto zu entdecken, so ging es erst einmal der Südküste entlang Richtung Westen. Wir fuhren an den westlichsten Punkt, Ponta dos Rosais, wo inmitten einer wilden Landschaft nur ein ausgedienter hässlicher Leuchtturm auf uns wartete… Zurück der Nordküste entlang machten wir einen Halt im märchenhaften Parque das Sete Fontes und fuhren den Pico da Velha (493 m) hinauf um ein atemberaubendes Panorama zu geniessen.
At 4 pm we were ready to discover the rest of the island by our rental car and first drove along the south coast direction west. We headed for the most western point, Ponta dos Rosais, where in midst of the wild landscape only a veteran ugly lighthouse was awaiting us… Back along the north coast we stopped at the fairytale Parque das Sete Fontes and drove up Pico da Velha (493 m) to enjoy a breathtaking panorama.

Über eine Passstrasse von 700 m gelangten wir auf die Südseite nach Urzelina, wo wir endlich den lange gesuchten Glockenturm fanden, der seit 1808 in erstarrter Lava steht. Weiter ostwärts fuhren wir nach Calheta zum Restaurant Os Amigos, dort erwarteten uns Delfine zum Apero - quicklebendig tummelnd im Meer - und danach eine neue grillierte Fischspezie...

Over a pass of 700 m we reached Urzelina on the south coast, where we finally found the belfry which stands in solidified lava since 1808 and which we were looking for since yesterday. Further we went direction east to Calheta to the restaurant Os Amigos, there dolphins were awaiting us for a starter – fresh as a daisy splashing about in the ocean –and thereafter a new species of grilled fish…
