Heute mitten
in der Nacht hatten wir eine Mückenschlacht… ich denke die Cagarros haben doch
noch einige für uns übrig gelassen! ; ) Trotzdem haben wir wunderbar und wieder
einmal genügend geschlafen.
In the middle of the night we had a battle against mosquitos… I guess the cagarros had left some for us after all! ; ) Nevertheless we had a good and long sleep this night.

Das
Frühstück nahmen wir heute um 9:30 Uhr gemeinsam mit Kees und Frank ein, die
heute weiter auf die Insel Sao Miguel reisten. Es war wie angekündigt bewölkt,
so beschlossen wir einen ruhigen Tag im Städtchen (mit Shopping) zu verbringen.
Um 11 Uhr brachten wir unseren Toyota Yaris der Auto Turista Sao Jorge zurück
und schlenderten der Küstenpromenade entlang ins Zentrum von Velas. Sicherheitshalber
frage ich im ersten Geschäft mal nach, wie lange die Läden heute am Samstag
offen hätten – die Antwort ‘nur bis 12
Uhr‘ überraschte uns und wir kamen in Zeitnot, das es bereits 11:30 Uhr war! Bald
aber hatten wir alles ausgekundschaftet und übrig blieben noch die Chinesenläden,
die bis 19 Uhr geöffnet haben… Unterwegs begutachteten wir auch gleich die
Restaurants für heute und morgen Abend und fanden zwei gute Optionen! Bevor es
ins Hotel zurückging, genossen wir in der Hafenbar einen herrlichen Espresso
und einen frisch gepressten Orangenjus. Bei Nieseln traten wir den Rückweg an...
Eine
ausgiebige Ruhepause in unserem Hotelzimmer – trotz dem schönsten Wetter
draussen, aber auch unsere Haut braucht schliesslich eine Pause zwischendurch ;
) – war richtig wohltuend! Vielleicht kommen wir jetzt doch nicht so ganz
reisegestresst nach Hause? Auf jeden Fall packte ich vorsorglich mal meinen Rucksack für den Pico morgen!
Breakfast this morning we had at 9:30 am together with Kees & Frank who were about to leave for the island of Sao Miguel. As forecasted it was cloudy today, that’s why we decided to spend a relaxing day around town (shopping). At 11 am we returned our Toyota Yaris to Auto Turista Sao Jorge and strolled along the coastal promenade into the centre of Velas. To be on the safe side, I asked about the opening hours on Saturdays in the first shop – the answer ‘until noon’ made us feel time-pressed as it was already 11:30 am! But soon after we had already checked out everything and left were the Chinese shops which only close at 7 pm… (Kees & Frank: We have to leave our brought clothes here to fit the new ones into our suitcases!) Along the way we also eyed upon restaurants which could be considered tonight and tomorrow night for dinner and we found two nice options! Before we walked back to the hotel we enjoyed a very good espresso and a fresh squeezed orange juice at the harbour bar. When returning to the hotel it started to drizzle…
An extended rest period in our hotel room – in spite of the most beautiful weather outside, but also our skin needs a recover from time to tome ; ) – was exactly what we needed! Maybe this will be the reason we won’t come back home not quite so stressed out from travelling? Anyhow, providently I packed my backpack for tomorrow to climb Pico!

Um 19:30 Uhr sassen wir draussen im Restaurant Clube Naval de Velas bei einem weiteren grillierten Fisch und einem geradeso feinen Terras de Lava...
