Heute Morgen machten die silbernen Wolken schon früh Platz für einen blauen Himmel – das Wetter war heute genau wie wir es bestellt hatten um über die Hügel mitten durch die Insel zu fahren…

Already early this morning the grey clouds gave place to a clear blue sky – the weather was exactly how we had ordered it in order to be able to drive over the hills of the island and have a fantastic view…

Zuvor aber standen (für mich) Joggen am und Schwimmen im Meer, ein ausgiebiges Frühstück und etwas Sonnenbaden auf dem Programm! Um 13 Uhr waren wir startklar und fuhren zuerst in die Stadt (Praia da Vitòria) um uns Tickets für die fehlende Strecke Sao Miguel – Santa Maria mit der Fähre zu kaufen. Als wir diese im Sack hatten, erklommen wir mit unserem Autöli die 545 m zum Serra do Cume mit einer atemberaubenden Rundsicht – kein Wunder bei diesem Wetter! ; )

But first I went for a run along and a swim in the sea and we had an extensive breakfast as well as a relaxing hour at the pool! At 1 pm we were ready to hit the road and first drove into town (Praia da Vitòria) to buy tickets for our missing route Sao Miguel – Santa Maria by boat. As soon as we had them in our pockets we climbed up the 545 m to Serra do Cume by car where we had a breathtaking panorama – no wonder with this weather! ; )

Weiter ging es quer durch die Insel zur Gruta do Algar do Carvao, dem einzigen Vulkanschornstein der Welt, in den man absteigen kann! Danach besuchten wir die Schwefeldämpfe Furnas do Enxofre um darauf wieder in die Erde abzutauchen, in die Lavatunnel Gruta do Natal. Bevor wir nochmals (wie gestern) in den Piscinas Naturais in Biscoitos die Nachmittagssonne genossen und ausruhten, machten wir noch einen Halt an der mit Seerosen bedeckten Lagoa da Falca.

We went on across the island to the Gruta do Algar do Carvao, the only volcano chimney in the world possible to dismount! Thereafter we visited the sulphur fumes Furnas do Enxofre and subsequently caved in again into the ground, into the lava tunnel of Gruta do Natal. Before we relaxed once again (like yesterday) in the afternoon sun at the Piscinas Naturais in Biscoitos we made a stop at the Lagoa da Falca which was covered with water lilies.

Nach unserem ausgiebigen Sonnenbad in Biscoitos fuhren wir wie gestern der Nord- und dann der Westküste entlang bis nach Sao Mateus da Calheta, wo wir das vielversprechende Restaurant Beita Mar gesichtet hatten… und das war es auch! Wir mussten zuerst eine halbe Stunde warten, bis wir endlich einen Tisch bekamen, und die Leute standen Schlange bis wir es um 22 Uhr verliessen! Das Essen war einfach nur genial!!!

After our long sunbath in Biscoitos we drove, like yesterday, first along the north and thereafter along the west coast to Sao Mateus da Calheta, where we had spotted the promising restaurant Beita Mar… and that’s what it was! We had to wait for a table for half an hour and at 10 pm, when we were leaving, lots of people still queuing! Food was just delicious!!!
