27.07.2012 Faial - Pico

Der Wecker riss uns um 8:30 aus dem Schlaf, Nadine ging gleich zum Frühstück, wie sie das immer tut weil sie morgens Hunger hat, ich packte inzwischen. Als sie zurückkam, war ich reisebereit und ging frühstücken, wie ich es immer tue weil ich keinen Hunger habe morgens ; ) – übrigens kein schlechtes Arrangement: So hat es immer genug Platz im Badezimmer und auch im Zimmer zum Packen! Um 10 Uhr checkten wir aus, luden unser Gepäck ins Auto und fuhren an den Hafen. Die Fähre nach Pico stand schon bereit und als wir unsere Koffer ausluden, kam die Angestellte von Auto Turistica Falaiense um den Mietwagen entgegenzunehmen…perfektes Timing wie immer!

The alarm c(l)ock woke us up at 8:30 am, Nadine went for breakfast right away, as she does every morning because she feels hungry, I packed in the meantime. When she came back, I was ready and went for breakfast, as late as possible as every morning because I usually don’t feel hungry in the morning ; ) - by the way not the worst thing to do: Like this everyone has enough space in the bathroom and for packing! At 10 am we checked out, loaded our luggage into the car and drove to the port. The ferry to Pico was ready and when we unloaded our suitcases, the employee of Auto Turistica Falaiense came to take the rental car back… perfect timing like almost always!

Das Boot war ziemlich voll, es war also eine gute Idee die Tickets schon gestern zu besorgen! Wir genossen eine herrliche Überfahrt nach Madalena: Horta rückte immer weiter weg und zwischen zwei Felsen im Meer sahen wir schon unser nächstes Ziel: Die Insel Pico. Zu unserer Überraschung befand sich das Hotel Caravelas (http://www.hotelcaravelas.com.pt) direkt am Hafen!

The boat was quite full, hence it was a good idea to get the tickets already yesterday! We enjoyed a wonderful navigation to Madalena: Horta faded in the distance and soon we spotted our next aim, the island of Pico, between two rocks. To our surprise the Hotel Caravelas (http://www.hotelcaravelas.com.pt) is situated directly on the harbour!

Um 11:30 Uhr checkten wir im Hotel ein, packten für einmal alles aus unseren Koffern, da wir ja für 5 Nächte am gleichen Ort bleiben werden! Nadine machte sich gleich auf an den Pool und ich zum Tourist Office um mich über Mietwagen (was kein leichtes Unterfangen werden wird in der Hauptsaison!), Busse, Whalewatching und Restaurants zu erkundigen. Danach begab ich mich ebenfalls an den Pool und nach einigen Wolken erfreute uns purer Sonnenschein! Das tat sooo gut und ich fühlte mich danach bedeutend besser (Halsschmerzen und eine Erkältung plagten mich seit 2 Tagen…).

At 11:30 am we checked in the hotel, took everything out of our suitcases for once, as we will stay at the same place for 5 days! Nadine headed for the pool and I went to the tourist office to investigate about rental cars (which will be a rather difficult undertaking in the high season!), busses, whale watching and restaurants. Thereafter I joined her at the pool and after some clouds there was pure sunshine! This was such a treat and I felt much better thereafter (a sore throat and a cold had hit me since 2 days…).

Um 17 Uhr machten wir einen Rundgang durchs Städtchen mit vielen Boutiquen und klapperten alle Autovermietungen ab... da niemand ein Auto für die nächste Zeit zu vermieten hatte, hinterliessen wir unsere Adresse auf der Insel, falls jemand annullieren würde. Auf dem Rückweg zum Hotel buchten wir dafür eine Whalewatching Tour für morgen - dafür braucht man kein Auto! ; )

Zum Abendessen spazierten wir der Küste entlang zum Restaurant A Parisiana mit Sicht auf ganz Faial, das sich klar sichtbar präsentierte! Übrigens ließ sich auch der Gipfel des Pico heute Abend blicken! Bevor es zu Bett ging statteten wir der In-Lokal Dark Esplanada, gleich neben dem Hotel, einen Besuch ab um den neusten Post ins Netz zu laden…

Around 5 pm we strolled around the little town and went into each and every boutique as well as rental car office… as nobody had a car to hire for the next days, we left our address on the island in case somebody cancels. In return, on our way back to the hotel we booked a whale watching tour for tomorrow – surely we won’t need a car therefore! ; )

For dinner we strolled along the coast to the restaurant A Parisiana with view of the whole island of Faial which presented itself clearly visible! By the way, even Pico showed his peak tonight! Before we went to bed we visited the in-bar Dark Esplanada, right next to the hotel, to upload the latest post…
