Heute Morgen vor dem Frühstück machte ich mich auf die Insel Pico (zumindest die nähere Umgebung) joggend zu erkunden… ich rannte alles der Westküste entlang Richtung Süden bis nach Areira Larga, wo das Lavaweingebiet beginnt. Beim wunderschönen Restaurant O Ancoradouro (das beste der Insel!) ging ich schwimmen - vielleicht werde ich heute Abend wieder hier sein? ; )
Auf dem Rückweg kehrte ich ohne Geld beim Dark Esplanada für einen doppelten Espresso ein und versprach ihn nach dem Frühstück bezahlen zu kommen... so lernte ich Darlene kennen und half ihr bei der Übersetzung des Menüs in Englisch, Deutsch und Italienisch. Als wir nach dem Frühstück zum Bezahlen meiner Schulden zurückkamen, nutzten wir das WiFi um ein Hotel auf der Insel Graciosa zu reservieren und sämtliche Autovermietungen auf Sao Jorge und Graciosa anzuschreiben... Ich erzählte Darlene von unserem Dilemma mit dem Mietwagen auf Pico und 10 Minuten später stand ihr Freund Mauro vor uns und offerierte sein Auto für EUR 50 für 2 Tage! Natürlich konnten wir dieses Angebot nicht abschlagen - jetzt können wir Sonntag und Montag die Insel auf eigene Faust erkunden... Yeahhh!!!
Before breakfast this morning I went to discover the island Pico (at least the nearer neighborhood) by jogging along the west coast direction south… in Areira Larga, where the lava vineries start, I went for a swim, right next to the beautiful restaurant O Ancoradouro (the best on the island!) – maybe I’ll be here again this evening for dinner?
On the way back I went for a double espresso at the Dark Esplanada, without any cent in my pocket, and promised to come back to pay it after breakfast…that’s how I got to know Darlene who I helped to translate her menu in English, German and Italian. When we came back to deleverage, we used the WiFi to book our hotel on the island of Graciosa and to contact each and every rental car agency in Sao Jorge and Graciosa… I told Darlene about our problem to get a car on this island and 10 minutes later her boyfriend Mauro stood in front of us and offered their car for EUR 50 for 2 days! Of course we had to accept this offer – now we will be able to conquer the island in our way the next two days…Yeahhh!!!

Darauf gönnten wir uns 2 Stunden Ruhe am Pool bevor es um 14 Uhr weiter ging mit Whalewatching. Wir waren zwar 4 Stunden mit Pico Sport auf hoher See, haben aber ausser vielen Delfinen die hier ansässigen Pottwale nicht gesichtet... : (
Thereafter we relaxed 2 hours on the pool before we went whale watching at 2 pm. We were on the high sea for 4 hours but except of lots of dolphins we didn’t spot one of the domiciled sperm whales! : (

Nachdem
wir alles Salz aus den Haaren und vom Körper gewaschen hatten, marschierten wir
zur Tropical Autovermietung, die uns eine Nachricht im Hotel hinterlassen hatte
(aber ein Auto für morgen hatten wir ja schon!) und danach zur Bank, von wo uns
prompt ein netter Azorer zum Restaurant Ancoradouro fuhr… also befand ich mich
tatsächlich im Lokal, mit dem ich heute Morgen geliebäugelt hatte! Und es hat
sich wirklich gelohnt: Eine super Atmosphäre mit ebensolchen Aussicht und
meinem ersten Lobster! Zum Abschluss gab es einen Portwein und Arbeit beim
Blogschreiben im Dark Esplanada...

After having washed all the salt out of our hair and body, we walked to
the Tropical rent-a-car, who had left a message for us at the hotel (but we already
had a car for tomorrow!) and thereafter to the bank, from where a nice Azorean
drove us promptly to the restaurant Ancoradouro… well, I was back at the
restaurant I contemplated this morning! And it was worthwhile: A terrific ambience
with a great view and my first lobster! As a round-up we went to the Dark
Esplanada for a port wine and lots of work for the blog…
