Um 8 Uhr
machte ich mich schon auf um die Insel joggend zu erkunden. Da wir hier nicht
direkt am Meer wohnen, hatte ich keine Ahnung wie ich am besten dorthin kam...
nachdem ich auf todendenden kleinen Strassen, über Felder und Steinmauern die
Küste nach einer halben Stunde immer noch nicht erreicht hatte, beschloss ich
mich den Rückweg anzutreten. Im Hotel angekommen schwamm ich meine Runden im
Pool bevor ich dann Nadine beim Frühstück traf.
Already at 8 am I went jogging to explore the island. As we are not situated directly at the ocean here, I had no idea how to get there... after half an hour running on small deadending roads, over fields and stonewalls I decided to head back to the hotel. Back there I swam my rounds in the pool before I met Nadine for breakfast.

Wir
hatten ein Zimmer im Parterre und konnten um 14 Uhr in eins im obersten (2.)
Stock wechseln. Die Zeit nutzten wir um unsere Wäsche zu waschen und einen
ersten Rundgang mit unserem süssen kleinen Ferrari alias Peugeot 107 der
Südküste entlang zu machen... Zuerst besuchten wir die Praia Formosa, wo wir
für heute Abend in einem Fischrestaurant einen Tisch reservierten. Den
Sandstrand hier gibt es übrigens nur im Sommer, wenn der Atlantik Tonnen
feinkörnigen Sand anschwemmt! Danach besuchten wir Ponta do Castelo, den
südöstlichsten Punkt von Santa Maria, und die Bahia da Maia. Weiter fuhren wir
der Westküste entlang nach Sao Lourenço, das wie in einem großen Amphitheater
von Weinterrassen umgeben in der gleichnamigen Bucht lieg.
Um 14 Uhr
waren wir im Hotel zurück und tauschten das Zimmer 101 ins 303 ein. Darauf
gab es eine wohlverdiente Siesta am Pool...
We had a room on the ground floor and were able to change it to one at the top (2.) floor later on at 2 pm. We used our time with washing our laundry and go for a first drive along the south coast with our sweet little Ferrari alias Peugeot 107... First we visited Praia Formoso, where we booked a table at a fish restaurant for tonight. By the way, the beach here only exists in summer when the Atlantic floods tons of fine-grained sands on shore! Thereafter we visited Ponta do Castelo, the most south eastern point of Santa Maria, and Bahia da Maia. Further we drove along the east coast to Sao Laourenço, which is situated like in a huge amphitheater surrounded by terraces of vineyards in the same named bay.
At 2 pm we arrived at the hotel and switched room 101 to 303. Thereafter we had a well deserved siesta at the pool...

in Restaurant Praia Formosa ging, genossen wir zum Apero einen starken Espresso
im Hafenrestaurant von Vila do Porto. Um
19:30 Uhr kamen wir in Praia Formosa an und genossen ein hervorragendes
Abendessen: Frischkäse (eine typische Vorspeise der Azoren) mit frischem Salat
und danach grillierte Riesencrevetten – mmmhhhhh! Das
Dessert, Inselmelone mit Erdbeereis bzw. Portwein, nahmen wir im Central Pub
ein, wo wir David, Alison (die wir gestern auf dem Boot kennengelernt hatten)
und ihre ganzen Verwandten für einen kurzen Schwatz trafen!

Before we drove to the restaurant Praia Formosa we had a strong espresso
as an appetizer at the harbour restaurant of Vila do Porto. At 7:30 pm we arrived at Praia Formosa and enjoyed a delicious dinner:
fresh cheese (a typical Azorean starter) with a fresh garden salad and grilled
prawns thereafter – mmmhhhhh! Our desert, melon from Santa Maria with
strawberry ice-cream resp. Port wine, we had at the Central Pub, where we had a
short chat with David, Alison (we met yesterday on the boat) and all their
relatives!
