Heute Morgen gingen wir erst um 10:30 Uhr zum Frühstücksbuffet, danach packten wir in aller Ruhe und um 12 Uhr kam Antonio von Flor do Norte Rent-a-car und überbrachte uns einen Fiat Punto für die nächsten 4 Tage. Wir gingen kurz das Nötigste für unterwegs im Supermarkt einkaufen und dann ging es endlich los der Südküste entlang Richtung Osten…
This morning we had a late breakfast only at 10:30 am, thereafter packed our suitcases and at noon Antonio of Flor do Norte rent-a-car brought us a Fiat Punto for the next 4 days. Nach Sao Roque machten wir einen Abstecher ins Landesinnere zum Lagoa de Fogo bevor wir dann Caloura an der Küste passierten und einen Espressohalt in einem Hafencafé in Vila Franca do Campo machten. Die Fahrt war spannend durch die schmalen Gassen und wir waren froh, dass uns der Bus vor uns den Weg räumte: Viele entgegenkommende Autos mussten sich rückwärts aus dem Weg manövrieren!
After Sao Roque we drove inland to the Lagoa de Fogo before we passed Caloura on the coast and made a stop to have an espresso in a café at the harbour of Vila Franca do Campo. The drive through all the small streets was challenging and we were happy that the bus in front of us cleared the way: Lots of forthcoming cars had to drive backwards und clear the way!

Weiter nach Osten führte uns die Strasse ein Stück ins Landesinnere, wo wir eine herrliche Aussicht vom Miradouro Castello Branco genossen und die Caldeira de Pero Bothelo von Furnas besuchten. Schwefeldämpfe der heissen Quellen kamen uns entgegen und die Einheimischen kochten ihre Eintöpfe in heissen Erdlöchern…
Further direction east the road led us inland and we enjoyed a fantastic view from the Miradouro Castello Branco and visited the Caldeira de Pero Bothelo of Furnas. Lots of sulphur fumes of the hot springs were in the air and locals cooked their hotpots in hot sinkholes…

Um 18 Uhr erreichten wir in Povoaçao wieder die Küste und mieteten ein hübsches Zimmer mit Meersicht im sympathischen Hotel do Mar (www.hoteldomar.com). Mary, eine Schmuckkünstlerin und Receptionistin, reservierte uns einen Tisch im Restaurant Garajau in Ribeira Quente – einfach nur toll, auch die 15 km Fahrt über die Hügel ins nächste Tal!

At 6 pm we reached the coast again in Povoaçao and rented a pretty room with ocean view at the very lovely Hotel do Mar (www.hoteldomar.com). Mary, a jeweler artist and receptionist, reserved us a table at the restaurant Garajau in Ribeira Quenta – just great, also the 15 km drive over the hills to the next valley!
