Um 5:30 Uhr heute früh erwachte ich und konnte nicht mehr einschlafen, so nutzte ich die Zeit um an meinem Blog zu schreiben… eine Stunde später ging dann der Wecker, auch Nadine stand auf und wir machten uns bereit für unsere Weiterreise nach Flores unserer 4. Insel. Ein Taxi brachte uns um 7 Uhr zum nahegelegenen Flughafen, wir checkten unsere übergewichtigen Koffer wieder ohne Probleme ein und verbrachten die Zeit bis zu unserem Flug in einem Café. Pünktlich um 8:45 Uhr hoben wir in Ponta Delgada ab und wir genossen einen superschönen Flug mit Sicht auf die Inseln Terceira, Gaciosa, Pico und Corvo! Eine Stunde später landeten wir in Santa Cruz das Flores, holten unser Gepäck und mieteten bei Autatlantis einen Mietwagen für 2 Tage…
Very early at 5:30 am I woke up this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, that’s why I used the time to write for my blog… an hour later the alarm clock woke up Nadine and we got ready for the continuation of our journey to Flores, our 4th island. A taxi picked us up at 7 am and dropped us off at the airport nearby, where we checked in our overweight suitcases (again without any problems) and spent the time in a café waiting for our flight. On time at 8:45 am we took off from Ponta Delgada and had a wonderful flight with view of the islands of Terceira, Gaciosa, Pico and Corvo! An hour later we landed in Santa Cruz das Flores, picked up our luggage and rented a car for two days with Autatlantis…

Um 11 Uhr
checkten wir im Hotel das Flores (http://www.inatel.pt/unidhoteleira.aspx?menuid=673)
ein, das gleich neben dem Flughafen liegt mit fantastischen Blick auf Corvo und
die vorgelagerten Felsblöcke im Meer! Es war sehr heiss, als wir ankamen, zu
heiss um an den Pool zu liegen, so beschlossen wir das Städtchen Santa Cruz das
Flores und den Süden der Insel auszukundschaften. Eigentlich wollten wir zuerst
Wasser und Früchte einkaufen, aber da es Sonntag war, war alles zu wegen
geschlossen… Santa Cruz besitzt drei Häfen und eine wunderschöne Naturschwimmbeckenanlage!
At 11 am we checked in the Hotel das Flores (http://www.inatel.pt/unidhoteleira.aspx?menuid=673), which is situated next to the airport with a fantastic view of Corvo and the rocks offshore! It was very hot, when we arrived, too hot to lie on the pool, so we decided to explore the little town of Santa Cruz das Flores as well as the south part of the island. Actually we intended to buy some water and fruit first, but everything was closed on Sunday… There are three harbours in Santa Cruz and very beautiful natural swimming pools!

Wir
fuhren der Ostküste entlang Richtung Süden der kurvenreichen und mit Hortensien
gesäumten Strasse entlang bis nach Lajes das Flores, wo wir halb verdurstet in
einem Restaurant endlich unser langersehntes Wasser erhielten! Weiter ging es
der Südküste entlang und wir stiegen ins Hochland hinauf um die Kraterseen Caldeira
Funda und Rosa zu bestaunen, aber ausser Nebel sahen wir leider nichts! Der
Nebel hielt an bis wir wieder zurück ins Hotel nach Santa Cruz das Flores
kamen, wo wir eine ausgiebige Siesta machten und für unsere Weiterreise
recherchierten.
We drove along the east coast direction south on curvy streets lined with hydrangeas to Lajes das Flores, where we finally, half dead of thirst, in a restaurant found some water! Further along the south coast we drove up to the highlands to admire the crater lakes Caldeira Funda and Rosa, but except of fog we didn’t see anything at all! The fog persisted until we arrived back at the hotel in Santa Cruz das Flores, where we enjoyed a wonderful siesta and investigated for our trip to the next islands.

Um 18 Uhr
fuhren wir der Ostküste entlang Richtung Norden – eine spektakuläre Landschaft
eröffnete sich uns! Nach vielen Fotopausen erreichten wir 20 km und eine Stunde
später Ponta Delgada, wo wir ein wunderbares Abendessen im Restaurant O
Pescador genossen: frischen Fisch, wie immer!

At 6 pm we drove along the east coast direction north – a spectacular landscape presented itself! After loads of photo stops we finally reached Ponta Delgada 20 km and 1 hour later where we had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant O Pescador: fresh fish like always!
