Morgen vor dem Frühstück war wieder einmal Joggen und Schwimmen im Atlantik
angesagt… ich rannte der ganzen Bucht von Horta entlang und fand mein Plätzchen
um nackt Schwimmen zu gehen am Strand von Porto Pim…
This morning before breakfast I once again went for a run and a refreshing swim in the Atlantic… I ran along the whole bay of Horta and found my perfect spot for a naked swim at the beach of Porto Pim…

Um 10 Uhr wurden wir von einem Angestellten der Auto Turistica Falaiense abgeholt, wir erhielten einen Mitsubishi Lancer und fuhren damit gleich an den Hafen um unsre Tickets für die Fähre Horta (Faial) – Madalena (Pico) für morgen zu holen! Im Hotel packten wir das Nötigste für den Tag ein und klapperten danach erst einmal die letzten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Horta ab: Den Clube Sociedade Amor da Patria, ein Art-Déco Gebäude aus den 30-er Jahren, und die gewaltigen Drachenbäume im Jardim de Florencio Terra. Zum ersten Mal benutzen wir heute unsere Regenschirme!
At 10 am an employee of Auto Turistica Falaiense picked us up, we got a Mitsubishi Lancer and drove right away to the harbour to purchase our tickets for the ferry from Horta (Faial) – Madalena (Pico) for tomorrow! Back at the hotel we packed our things for the day and off we went first to see the last points of interest of Horta: The Clube Sociedade Amor da Patria, an art-deco building of the 30ies and the huge dragon trees in Jardim de Florencio Terra. For the first time we used our umbrellas today!

Danach fuhren wir Richtung Norden der Ostküste entlang nach Praia do Almoxarife mit seinem dunklen Sandstrand, dem längsten der Insel. Zudem sahen wir ein Restaurant, das wir wohl heute Abend zum Essen aufsuchen werden… Wir fuhren durch Pedro Miguel und Ribeirinha, die 1998 am schwersten vom Erdbeben betroffen worden waren.
Thereafter we drove along the east coast direction north to Praia do Almoxarife with its dark beaches, the longest ones of the island. There we spotted a restaurant we probably will go to for dinner tonight… We passed Pedro Miguel and Ribeirinha, which were almost destroyed completely in 1998 by an earthquake.

Weiter ging es der Nordküste entlang und um 14 Uhr kamen wir im Nordwesten der Insel beim Volcao dos Capelinhos an, einen 1957/58 durch untermeerischen Ausbruchs neu dazu gewachsenen Teil der Insel. In einem modernen Komplex mit Cafe sowie sehr informativen Ausstellungen und Filmen verbrachten wir über eine Stunde!
Further we drove along the north coast and arrived at the Volcao dos Capelinhos in the northwest of the island around 2 pm. It is a new piece of land created by a sub terrestrial eruption in 1957/58. We spent more than an hour in the modern complex with a café as well as very informative exhibitions and films!

Zurück fuhren wir an der Westküste entlang durch Varadouro mit Sicht auf Morro de Castelo Branco und beendeten schliesslich um 17 Uhr unsere Inselumrundung im Peter's Café Sport im Hafen von Horta. Dort trafen wir zum dritten Mal Sandra mit ihrem Sohn Rodrigo, die wir im Hotel das Flores kennengelernt hatten und gestern beim Abendessen wiedergesehen hatten!
Nach kurzem Auffrischen im Hotel machten wir uns etwas vor 20 Uhr auf zum Abendessen ins Restaurant O Cagarro nach Praia do Almoxarife. Cagarro ist übrigens der portugiesische Namen des Gelbschnabelsturmtauchers, dessen komische Rufe wir hier auf den Inseln öfters in der frühen Nacht gehört hatten… Das Essen war hervorragen, wieder eine exzellente Wahl unseres Restaurants! Den Abschluss fanden wir bei einem Gin Tonic im Peter’s Café Sport, wo eine live Band spielte und wir nochmals Sandra und Rodrigo trafen…

Back we drove along the west coast through Varadouro with view of Morro de Castelo Branco and finally ended our circle around the island at 5 pm in Peter's Café Sport at the harbour of Horta. There we met for the third time Sandra and her son Rodrigo, who we got to know at the Hotel das Flores and met again last night at dinner!
After a short refreshing break at the hotel we headed back to Praia do Almoxarife around 8 pm to have dinner at the restaurant O Cagarro. By the way, cagarro is the Portuguese name for Cory’s shearwater, we often have heard on the islands making very peculiar sounds at night… Our meal was delicious, another excellent choice of our restaurant! The end of our evening we had at Peter’s Café Sport with a gin and tonic, where a live band played and we met Sandra and Rodrigo once again…
