Vor dem
Frühstück ging ich joggen und schwamm einige Runden in den piscinas naturais,
nur war es diesmal noch eiskälter als sonst, und zwar weil es mit Flusswasser
vom Pico gemischt war! Der Pico präsentierte sich übrigens wolkenlos heute
früh!
Before breakfast I went for a run and swam some rounds in the piscinas naturais, only this time it was much ice-colder than before, namely because it was mixed with fresh river water from Pico! By the way, Pico presented itself without a cloud this morning!

Nach dem
Frühstück genossen wir das Hammer-Wetter am Pool für einige Stunden, dann ging
es ab unter die Dusche und auf weitere Entdeckungsreise der Insel... Wir fuhren
am späteren Nachmittag zu den Gruta das Torres, der größten Lavahöhle
Portugals, die erst 2005 entdeckt wurde - aber eine 1 1/2 Stunden Führung war
uns bei diesem schönen Wetter dann doch zu lang, so irrten wir weiter durchs
Gebirge auf dem Weg zu den Kraterseen...
After breakfast we enjoyed the absolutely gorgeous weather at the pool for a couple of hours, thereafter we took a refreshing shower and went to discover more of the island… It was already later in the afternoon when we drove to the Gruta das Torres, the biggest lava caves of Portugal, which had been discovered only in 2005 - but a 1 ½ hour tour was definitively too long having such wonderful weather outside, that’s why we wandered around further more through the hills on the way to the crater lakes…

Als wir quer
durch das Hochland fuhren, entdeckten wir die Abzweigung zur Casa de Apoio, dem
Ausgangspunkt zum Erklimmen des Pico-Gipfels. Wir erkundigten uns um abzuwägen
zu können, ob wir es morgen bei guter Witterung wagen könnten eine 7-stündige
Wanderung auf uns zu nehmen… Danach passierten wir auf ca. 1000 m Höhe die
Kraterseen Capitao, Caiado, Rosada und Peixinho, wobei ich mir bei einer
waghalsigen Fotoaufnahme meinen linken Fuss verstauchte – ob es wohl doch
nichts wird mit dem Pico morgen???
When driving across the highlands we discovered the conjunction to Casa de Apoio, the bases of the climb to the peak of Pico. We went to inform ourselves if we could consider a 7-hour climb tomorrow, weather permitting of course… Thereafter, on the altitude of 1000 m, we passed the crater lakes Capitao, Caiado, Rosada und Peixinho, where I sprained my left ankle – does this mean the end of climbing up Pico tomorrow???

Auf dem
Rückweg nach Madalena machten wir einen Espresso-Halt im Restaurant O Rochedo
in Furna de Sant Antonio, wo wir gestern die piscinas naturais aufgesucht
hatten. Danach ging es zum Abendessen ins Restaurant O Ancoradouro (zum zweiten
Mal, so genial ist es!) mit herrlicher Terrasse und Sicht auf Faial sowie fantastischem Essen…

On the way back to Madalena we had an espresso stop at the restaurant O
Rochedo in Furna de Sant Antonio, where we rested at the piscinas naturais
yesterday. Thereafter we drove to the restaurant O Ancoradouro (for the second time, it's so terrific!)
having a delicious dinner on its fantastic terrace with view to Faial…
