Heute Morgen war es bewölkt, aber doch schon 25 Grad warm… Bis jetzt hatten wir übrigens ein Riesenglück mit dem Wetter: Fast immer sonnig, morgens oft etwas bewölkt und Temperaturen zwischen 25 und 30 Grad! Genau richtig für tolle Fotos!!! ; )

This morning it was overcast, but already 25 centigrade… By the way, up to now we were very lucky with the weather: Nine times out of ten it was overcast in the mornings and then got sunny with temperatures between 25 and 30 centigrade! Just perfect for nice pictures!!! ; )

Nach dem Frühstück kurz vor Mittag machten wir uns auf um in Ponta Delgada alle Tickets bei SATA (Flüge) und Atlanticoline (Fähren) zu kaufen, damit wir auch garantiert (ausser bei Force Majeure!) alle 9 Inseln bis am 9. August besuchen können! Auf dem Weg dorthin kamen wir an einer Ananasplantage vorbei, wo wir einen köstlichen Ananaslikör degustieren durften uns erzählt wurde, dass es 2 Jahre dauert, bis die Ananas reif sind hier...

After breakfast shortly before noon we hit the road towards Ponta Delgada to buy all the tickets with SATA (flights) and Atlanticoline (ferries) to ensure (except in case of force majeure!) our visit to all the 9 islands until the 9^th of August! On the way we passed a pineapple plantation where we tasted a delicious pineapple liqueur and where we were told that the pineapples here take 2 years to grow…

Als wir alle Tickets im Sack hatten genehmigten wir uns einen feinen Espresso an der Marina und fuhren danach voller Optimismus der Südküste entlang Richtung Westen nach Ponta de Farraria, dem westlichsten Punkt Sao Miguels. Unterwegs begegneten wir einem mit Feldstecher und Funkgerät bestückten Mann, der den Booten auf dem Meer die Position der Wale und Delfine bekannt gab… Weiter ging es nach Mosteiros, wo sich am schwarzen Strand ein Ensemble von Mönchen (Felsen) zu einem Kloster (= mosteiro) gruppieren, leider hat es ausser Ferienhäuser keine Unterkünfte dort… : (

When we had all our tickets in the bag we enjoyed a nice espresso at the marina and thereafter drove optimistically along the south coast direction west to Ponta de Farraria, the most western point of Sao Miguel. On the way we met a guy armed with binoculars and a radio device who gave the positions of the whales and dolphins to the boats out in the ocean… Further we took the road to Mosteiros, where on the black lava beach an ensemble of monks (rocks) arrange to a monastery (= mosteiro), unfortunately there were lots of cottages but no accommodations…: (

Kurz vor 18 Uhr kamen wir in Capelas im wunderschönen Hotel Solar do Conde (http://www.hotelsolardoconde.com) an, wo wir für 2 Nächte ein Bungalow mieteten. Das Abendessen nahmen wir im Hotelrestaurant ein, einem ehemaliger Gutshof aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Wenn es hat, bestelle ich immer einen Weisswein der Azoren, heute einen Terra de Lava. Dazu hatten wir Gambas, aber ich kann die vielen verschiedenen Fische gar nicht aufzählen, die wir bisher hatten, und jeder schmeckte anders!

Just before 6 pm we arrived at the beautiful Hotel Solar do Conde (http://www.hotelsolardoconde.com) in Capelas where we took a bungalow for 2 nights. Later on we went for dinner at the restaurant belonging to the hotel, a former manor of the 17^th century. I always order (white) wine from the Azores if they have, this time it was a Terra de Lava. We had king prawns tonight, but I cannot list all the different fish we had up to now which all tasted different as well!
